BA (Hons) Psychology, MSc (Child & Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy), Cert. CBT
Katja is an experienced and fully qualified child and adolescent psychotherapist with a background in special needs services and early childhood education. During her Master of Science in Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Katja gained experience in individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy with children and adolescents in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMS). She became a qualified psychotherapist in 2002 and has worked in private practice since then.
Katja also has several years experience working psychotherapeutically as part of a multidisciplinary team in two family centres and has provided psychotherapeutic services in school settings. She has also worked with the HSE Counselling in Primary Care Service.
Katja is specially trained to observe and respond to children’s and young people’s conscious and unconscious communications made through language, behaviour, play and art. She tailors her approach to each individual client and works in an age appropriate way. The work focuses on helping children and young people towards a fuller understanding of themselves, their feelings, relationships and patterns of behaviour.
Katja also uses her skills and training in her work with parents/guardians where she offers support and insight in to children’s/young people’s feelings and behaviour.
Katja is a fully accredited therapist and a registered supervisor with the “Irish Council for Psychotherapy” (ICP) and the “Irish Forum for Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy” (IFCAPP). She is also certified by “The European Association for Psychotherapy” (EAP). Along with providing psychotherapy to children and young people, Katja provides supervision to therapists from a range of theoretical backgrounds.
Katja is bi-lingual. She is fluent in the English and German languages.
