Panic Attacks (Panic Disorder) is a condition where a person has an acute attack of panic without warning

A panic attack typically lasts several minutes and is extremely upsetting and frightening.

The symptoms vary from person to person as do the triggers and underlying causes.

In some cases people report sensations and symptoms similar to those of a heart attack and often present to the accident and emergency department in hospital.

The symptoms of panic disorder include:

  • Racing or pounding heart
  • Chest pains or heaviness in the chest, unable to catch ones breath
  • Dizziness and light-headedness
  • Tingling in the hands, feet, legs or arms
  • Sweaty palms, trembling
  • Fear of losing control/going crazy/dying
